Hello and welcome to the Founders of Nations podcast. My name is Matthew Grace and I'll be your guide as we try to gain some understanding about why cultures are the way they are. I spent 6 years working in Asia and am now a teacher in the US. I spent a lot of my time there confused... yet intrigued by how different these cultures were to my own! What I found very helpful to look at the country's "great men and women". This allowed me to not only understand the culture better and it also gave me some "street cred" with the average person; didn't often meet foreigners who knew those people. So that's what I'm going to be doing here, going for the person popularly thought of as the founder of the country and seeing how their story can help us understanding more about that country.
How that will work itself out is a march through the countries from A-Z giving a "season" to each letter. I plan on releasing a new country every 3 Monday nights. Each country will have two episodes, the actual episode on the founder, which will be about 30 minutes long and then a second 5-10 minute mini-sode introducing other podcasts that also cover the topic. That way if you find my podcast too turrible you can at least follow along and learn about these things from other podcasts.
